Springtime with CHC Vintage

It is that time of year again, where I find myself freezing cold in the spontaneous English weather…
Purely because I am determined to wear that cute outfit I’ve had planned for my day off all week. I think you could call that commitment or stubbornness!

But when I received my CHC Vintage dress subscription this week, of course I had to wear this perfect springtime dress!

The Baby Blue Pencil Dress

Luckily, by the time we were ready to start photographing, the sun was peaking through the clouds and it wasn’t quite as chilly anymore.

My expectations from my last parcel from the CHC Vintage dress subscription were fairly high; the knitted dress was a great start.
I knew I would love this dress as soon as I opened the parcel – that collar! The design is so simple and understated, the possibilities of styling it are endless. I was a little concerned as I don’t reach for pencil dresses very often (my hips aren’t my favourite), but I was pleasantly surprised by the fit. I also decided that if I was feeling insecure, I could wear my blue gingham circle skirt over the top, so the collar was still a main feature. But I was feeling pretty good on this particular day, I wanted to dress to speak for itself!

CHC Vintage suggested in their note to style with a denim jacket and some sneakers, a chunky knit jumper, or to dress it up with heels. I agree with all of the above!

But How Vintage?

There is no tag (possibly hand made), no lining, a zip closure at the back and frayed seams. To my amateur eye, I believe it to be 1960’s, but it is could be later. As always, the era doesn’t matter to me, it fits with my style very well! The seams have been repaired in some places but it is a very sturdy and structurally sound dress.

Of course I love the collar, but I also love the seam line at the waist, adding definition and shape. You could easily add a belt, but I didn’t feel it needed it.

I am over the moon with April’s dress from CHC Vintage – they really seem to get my style. I really can’t wait for the next delivery!
